OASIS
Alpha
At openUC2, we’re trying to think microscopy differently by making it accessible, modular, and open-source. In collaboration with the Helmholtz Zentrum Hereon, we are proud to introduce the Flow-Stop Microscope OASIS — a state-of-the-art tool designed to monitor marine plankton with high precision and high affordability. Whether you’re a researcher, educator, or marine biologist, this compact device provides a cost-effective and robust solution for studying the microscopic life within our oceans.
The Flow-Stop Microscope is tailored to withstand the challenging conditions of marine environments, making it perfect for use on research vessels. Its modular design ensures durability while providing high-resolution imaging of organisms as small as 3-5 µm. The microscope integrates seamlessly with existing systems, offering autonomous operation for continuous flow microscopy, ideal for oceanographic research.
OASIS
Features
- High-Resolution Imaging: Equipped with a 10x, 0.3NA microscope objective, and a monochromatic USB 3 camera featuring the Sony IMX 179 chip, this microscope delivers exceptional image quality.
- Autonomous Operation: The integrated stepper motor-driven peristaltic pump ensures a continuous flow of water through the microscope’s field of view, while the motorized focus allows for precise adjustments.
- Robust and Durable: The monolithic 3D-printed body houses all essential components, and the IP66-rated case ensures durability in harsh environments (electric connections will void the water protection).
- Modular Design: Easily interchangeable components, including the flow cell and optics, allow for customization and adaptability to various research needs.
- Seamless Integration: Powered by a Raspberry Pi 5 and controlled via openUC2 electronics, the system is designed for easy integration with existing research setups.
- Remote Access: The built-in WiFi hotspot enables remote operation and monitoring via a smartphone or tablet, ensuring flexibility in data collection
High-Throughput
Applications
The Flow-Stop Microscope is a powerful tool for marine biology, particularly for monitoring plankton populations in the ocean. It provides critical data on how changes in ocean temperature affect marine life, including insights into the ocean’s CO2 binding capacity. This emerging field of research urgently needs new data, and the Flow-Stop Microscope is the solution to generate it reliably and cost-effectively.
